The Competitive Edge With SMART BOWEN THERAPY

In sports, athletes use soft tissues like muscles, tendons and ligaments at a rate that is far greater than the average person. Even if you do not compete its vital to keep your body balanced and functioning at it’s best so you can perform and achieve your goals. BOWEN THERAPY focuses on the state of the soft tissues; fascia, muscles, tendons and ligaments and strives to ensure that tissues are fully functional, making BOWEN THERAPY a particularly beneficial tool to have in their care package.

We can help address posture imbalances, muscle dysfunction, and recovery from injuries.  Sports people report that their performance is enhanced, they are more resistant to injury and recover faster when they have maintenance Bowen treatments. I work with each individual client, getting to know there goals and training plans so we can ensure there body is performing at it's best. For many of my clients it is about remaining injury free so they can continue to do the sport they love!  See real  stories from some of my lovely clients below.

Heal and Recover

Bowen can be an invaluable tool when facing an injury, be it traumatic or strain induced. Both will cause soft tissue damage and put the body in a state of stress-response – two issues that Bowen is not only well-equipped to address, but also very effective at resolving, bringing down the healing and recovery time to sometimes impressively and significantly shorter periods of time.

Maintain and Train

As a preventative measure, maintenance Bowen treatments will ensure that soft tissues remain in their best possible functioning state thus reducing the risk of tears often caused by strain and/or imbalances at work in the body.

Perform

Performance wise, a Bowen treatment will always aim to achieve balance in the body, which will, in turn, enable the various structures to function at their peak without any added strain.

Dual Athlete, Marathon Runner

I approached Suzie in the run up to the Manchester marathon and she was an enormous help.  I have a history of knee injury and as I was upping the mileage in my marathon preparation. I went to Sue to see if she could help me prevent the injury re-occurring.  She was fantastic and throughout my training and in my peak mileage weeks the injury never flared up.  On race day I ran pain free and I am sure that the treatments had a huge part to play in being able to run my PB time of three hours and five minutes.  Sue has a very professional and yet friendly approach.  She gets to know you and by asking lots of questions she can really ascertain what sort of treatment is required and she always gave her insight and advice when I asked for her opinion on my training plan.”  Fiona Carter

First Ultra Marathon

"I started training for the 'Heineken Race To The Tower' ultra marathon in January, but soon realized my body was not tuned for running. After a little advice, I decided to book an appointment with Sue @ Smart Bowen Therapy. After my first session I could already feel the benefits, after the second/third I was running and recovering pain free!

I ran The Race To The Tower 4 days ago, I'm not saying I had no niggles during the race (it is 53 miles & 7500ft of climbing) but really very few, my recovery has been phenomenally quick!

Thanks Sue, you come highly recommended by me! " Henry Bentall 2019

 Marathon Runner UK No.1 V50. April 2019

"Prior to receiving SMART Bowen Treatment from Sue I had run 13 marathons. After each of these I suffered considerable DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) in my legs making walking uncomfortable for days after the race and stairs very difficult indeed.

I started seeing Sue initially to work on a long term injury I have in my left glute and hamstring. The symptoms were much improved after my first two treatments and continue to be under control. It wasn’t until I ran the Frankfurt Marathon some weeks later in October 2017 that I experienced further benefits of the “whole body” approach. I suffered NO DOMS whatsoever after this race and I can honestly say that my legs have felt better than they ever have done in the days after running a marathon. I continue with maintenance treatment and ran the Manchester Marathon in April 2018, again, no DOMS at all in the days after the race. It has made such a difference." Fee Maycock

England Walking Footballer

"After years of back and shoulder problems from a sporting injury and a toe operation which had deadened the nerve in my big toe, I had tried Physio, Acupuncture, reflexology and Chiropractors all of which had helped but not cured my problems. However Bowen has helped no end. After just one session with Sue my long term shoulder problem had released and after two healed completely.  My back which often spasmed responded well to treatment and I am now able to do sport again and amazingly during one session I regained feeling in my toe!!! I highly recommend this treatment for anyone as I use it now to keep me feeling in top condition." Adrian Walsh

Cyclist HONC Race

"At 51 years old I have always been active, playing football, running and cycling. After sustaining a number of sporting injuries, a broken collar bone, broken shoulder and a knee operation my body was feeling the effects and not for the better! Experiencing hip pain and pain in general I started getting more soft tissue problems. I began having SMART BOWEN THERAPY with Sue and this has made a huge difference, I feel more supple and aligned. I completed the HONC 100km in 2021 this being my 12th year in a row, I achieved my fastest time ever! I had a treatment after the race, the next day I felt great, this aided my recovery enormously."
